General Information:Interleukin 1 alpha is exprimed as 31 kDa pro-molecule, which does not contain a signal sequence. By proteolytic cleaving the mature 17 kDa IL-1 alpha is generated. This peptide is released upon injury and apoptosis. IL-1 alpha stimulates the activity of osteoclasts in bone nad plays a role in the modulation of the extracellular calcium concentration. It activates T-cells, B-cells, and NK-cells. Endotoxins initiate the signal transduction of the pro-molecule and activate further pro-inflammatoric genes in the nucleus.
