General Information:	VEGFs (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factors) are a group of homodimer glycoproteins. The subunits are linked by disulfide bonds. (MW reduced form 18-24 kDa). VEGFs are involved in angiogenesis during embryogenesis and in tumour progression and generation of metastasis. They possess mitogenic characteristics and specifically increase the permeability of endothelia in blood vessels.

Special properties:	VEGF-A is exprimed as 4 isoforms, the smaller ones (VEGF 121 and VEGF 165) are secretory proteins, while the larger forms (VEGF 189 and VEGF 206) remain associated with the cell walls.

Positive control:	Metastasing tumours of different origin

Pre-treatment:	Formaldehyde fixed tissue shows good results after pre-treatment with proteinase K (0.01%, 15 min at RT), other proteases and micro-wave techniques are not validated.

Applications:	ELISA, WB, IHC(P)
