Specificity:Pro-Surfactant Protein B, no reactivity with mature SPB

Species Specificity:Human, Rat, others not tested

General Information:Lung surfactant is a complex of phospholipids and proteins which is secreted by type II alveolar cells. It is decreasing the surface tension in the airways and is essential for unobstructed ventilation. Up to now 4 different proteins have been isolated and have been defined as surfactant proteins A, B, C and D: SP-A and SP-D are collagenous carbohydrate binding proteins while SP-B and SP-C are non-collagenous proteins.

Special properties:SP-B is exprimed in adenocarcinoma of the lung with acinar, papillary, brochioloalveolar and solid growth pattern. Squamous cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma of the lung as well as non-pulmonary adenocarcinoma don't express SP-B. Pro-SP-B is glycosylated in the Golgi apparatus and undergoes carboxyterminal and aminoterminal proteolysis to form the mature SP-B.

Positive control:Lung adenocarcinoma

Pre-treatment:After formaldehyde fixation antigen unmasking at 96-100°C is recommended (use citrate buffer Art. No. DE000 or Unmasking Fluid G on glycol basis Art. No. DE007 respectively).

Applications:IF, IHC(P)

Incubation time:60 min at RT

Secondary reagents:As secondary systems in immunohistochemistry we recommend the VECTASTAIN Elite ABC Mouse IgG system (Art. No. PK-6102) or VECTOR ImmPress Mouse IgG (Art. No. MP-7402) and BIOLOGO Universal Staining Kits DAB and AEC (Art. No. DA005 and AE005).

Storage:2-8°C

Notes:
*BIOLOGO's antibodies are intended for in vitro research use only. They must not be used for clinical diagnostics and not for in vivo experiments in humans or animals.

** The preservative sodium azide is known to be poisonous and potentially hazardous to health. It should be handled only by trained staff. Despite of the product's low azide concentration it must be handled with care. Dispose according to regional rules!
