Presentation:	Antibody solution, stabilized phosphate buffer containing 0.09% sodium azide. The volume is sufficient for at least 50 immunohistochemical tests (100 µl/test). For further dilution suitable diluent like Art. No. PU002 should be applied.

General Information:	Cytokeratins are a group of water-insoluble filamentous proteins. They are constituents of the cytoskeleton of epidermal cells and other epithelial cells. Up to now 20 different cytokeratins have been characterised by gel electrophoresis. They have been subdivided into a basic and an acid subfamily. Most frequently the nomenclature according to Moll et al. (1982) is used. Cytokeratin 18 is expressed by simple epithelia of the intestinal tract, lung, bronchi, urinary tract, liver and gland ducts.

Special properties:	The antibody to CK18 usually will be positive with adenocarcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. It may be useful for the differentiation between adenocarcinoma and mesothelioma on one side (CK18 positive) and squamous cell carcionoma and non-epithelial tumours (CK18 negative) on the other.

Positive control:	Breast carcinoma or appendix

Applications:	IHC (C,P)

Incubation time:	60 min at RT (or 2-8°C over night)

Secondary reagents:	We recommend the use of BIOLOGO'S Universal Staining System DAB (Art. No. DA005) or AEC (Art.-No. AE005), but also other sensitive staining systems like VECTASTAIN ABC or APAAP are applicable.
