| Presentation: | Antibody solution in stabilizing phosphate buffer pH 7.3. Contains 0.09 % sodium azide**. The volume is sufficient for at least 50 immunohistochemical tests (100 µl working solution / test). Use appropriate antibody diluent e.g. BIOLOGO Art. No. PU002, if further dilution is required. |
| Immunogen: | Human duodenal microvilli |
| Specificity: | Acid Cytokeratin 20, 46 kD |
| Species Specificity: | Human |
| General Information: | Cytokeratins are a group of water-insoluble filamentous proteins. They are constituents of the cytoskeleton of epidermal cells and other epithelial cells. Up to now 20 different cytokeratins have been characterised by gel electrophoresis. They have been subdivided into a basic and an acid subfamily. Most frequently the nomenclature according to Moll et al. (1982) is used. |
| Special properties: | Cytokeratin 20 is an acid cytokeratin of low MW (46 kDa), which is exprimed by gastrointestinal epithelia, urothel, Merkel-cells of the epidermis as well as by some endocrine cells in the pylorus. Most other epithelia including breast don't exprime CK20. Colorectal carcinoma frequently exprime CK20, while adenocarcinoma of stomach gall bladder, gall ducts, pancreas, mucinous ovarian cancer and transitional cell tumours exprime this CK to a minor extent. Negative staining is usually obtained in adenocarcinoma of breast, lung, endometrium and non-mucinous tumours of the ovary. For differential diagnosis of ovarian carcinoma and colorectal carcinoma CK20 antibody should be used in combination with CK7 (Art. No. CK107 and CK507) only. |
